Transition Extended for TAE Qualifications
Following the new TAE training package release, ASQA moved the transition period for three qualifications to 9 December 2024. This extension aims to ease the transition process and provide registered training organisations (RTO) and students with the necessary time and support to meet the new requirements.
The new transition period applies to the following qualifications:
TAE40116 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
TAE50116 – Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
TAE50216 – Diploma of Training Design and Development

What’s Next for RTOs
Prepare for the new TAE training package update by identifying what qualifications and units of competency you need to add to your scope. Apply for a scope of registration if the updated version is not equivalent to your current program. Meanwhile, ASQA will automatically update your scope if it’s equivalent to the new version.
Here are a few more things you need to do:
- Talk to industry experts to identify new business opportunities.
- Check your training and assessment strategy to spot areas for improvement.
- Update your training materials or obtain the necessary training materials as early as possible. Securing high-quality training resources as soon as you can allows you to have ample time to modify them to the needs of your learners by contextualising, rebranding, and editing them.
- Create a transition plan for students who cannot complete the course within the transition period.
