Remote Pilot Licence Project
The Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) Project, recently approved by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), is underway to update the Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot). This project aims to better reflect current industry practices and align more closely with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations. The need for licensed drone operators has grown significantly, and these updates will help streamline training and ensure a more skilled and compliant workforce.
A Technical Committee will oversee the updates, with input from industry stakeholders being welcomed until 13 September 2024. The aim is to reduce additional training requirements for licensed drone operators, creating a more efficient pathway to certification.

Flight Instructor Project
Industry Skills Australia (ISA) has initiated the Flight Instructor Project in response to a pressing shortage of qualified flight instructors, particularly at the senior level. This shortage is hindering the flow of new pilots entering the aviation industry. To address this, the Diploma of Aviation (Flight Instructor) is being revised to better align with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) standards.
These changes will enhance the industry recognition of the qualification, reduce training costs for learners, and update the Training and Assessment (TAE) units to reflect current best practices. Stakeholders are encouraged to contribute their insights, and a Technical Committee will guide the review process. The project is expected to complete by July 2024.
