The highly-anticipated 2020 CPC training package update is finally live on training.gov.au. The CPC training package version 5.0 is out, which means the previous version is automatically superseded. This is one of the most important updates the construction, plumbing, and service (CPC) training package has seen in years, with multiple versions being released in succession.
Last August 2020, the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC) fully endorsed the release of CPC Training Package versions 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0. and RTOs will now see thirty-five (35) qualifications changed (updated or new ones to be created) in the new versions of this training package.
There have been several changes by the Skills Minister in many of the Certificate III projects and qualifications. The approved qualifications come from various industries, such as:
- Building design, painting, and decorating
- High-risk work
- Building completions
- Bricklaying, block laying, and stonemasonry
- Building and construction
- Demolition
- Construction pathways
Various industry stakeholders like unions, industry associations, contractors, training organisations, and the like were involved in the consultation of this update. RTOs can expect the changes to reflect the current needs of the industry.

Word of Advice for RTOs
As we said earlier, the CPC versions 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0 updates are the most significant changes to the CPC Training Package in years. A lot of RTOs will have to adapt to these huge changes quickly if they want to keep up with the new courses and student demand. The best way for your organisation to stay afloat is by having a transition plan in place once the qualifications supersede.
Start planning what projects you need to add to your scope and secure the training materials you need as early as possible. Getting high-quality training resources as soon as possible will give you plenty of time to contextualise, rebrand, and edit them to fit the needs of your learners.
