Breaking Down UET Training Updates: What You Need to Know

22 September 2023 UET Training Update: 7 UET Rescue Units Gets Extended Period

In a significant move aimed at bolstering safety standards across Australia, the Australian Skills Quality Authority’s (ASQA) latest training update brings a new transition period for critical units of the UET training package. Focused on transmission, distribution, and rail sectors (UET), these programs are meticulously designed to equip professionals with indispensable skills to excel in rescue scenarios.

Key Units Covered in the Latest UET Training Update

This extension applies to essential UET competency units, vital for individuals operating in high-risk environments.

  • UETDRRF001 – Perform cable pit/trench/excavation rescue
  • UETDRRF002 – Perform EWP rescue
  • UETDRRF003 – Perform pole top rescue

Initially set to conclude on 13 October 2023, the UET training update extends the transition period to 13 October 2024. It allows both registered training organisations (RTOs) and students to complete training and secure certification, significantly reinforcing safety standards.

ASQA’s Commitment

ASQA prioritises safety and competency, and extensions are granted when it’s clear that learners would face significant challenges without them. ASQA has taken proactive steps to inform relevant authorities in various states, ensuring consistent implementation of the extended transition period.

These UET units of competency will stay within your RTO’s scope of registration until the extended transition period concludes.

Preparing Your RTO for the UET Training Update

As an RTO, taking these essential steps ensures a smooth transition to the latest UET training package update and helps you maximise the benefits of the extension period.

  1. Revise TAS plans: Meticulously review and optimise your training and assessment plans (TAS) to ensure they align seamlessly with the latest UET training package best practices. It is crucial as it equips your RTO to provide learners with the most current knowledge and skills they can apply effectively in real-world scenarios.
  2. Enhance Resources: Keeping your training resources up-to-date and well-maintained fosters an ideal learning environment, allowing learners to understand concepts and develop skills more effectively.
  3. Support Learners: Offer tailored support to address students’ needs. It could include additional practice sessions, access to experienced trainers for guidance, or customised learning resources to cater to different learning styles.
  4. Ensure Compliance: Know ASQA’s guidelines, updates, and requirements. Staying informed ensures your training programs align with regulatory standards, fostering trust among learners and stakeholders.
  5. Effective Communication: Commit to maintaining open and transparent communication channels with your learners. Convey the benefits of the extended transition period, such as the added learning time it provides.
  6. Progress Monitoring: Implement a robust progress monitoring system. It includes continuously evaluating learners’ progress and providing timely, constructive feedback. Regular assessments help learners stay on track and identify areas where they may need additional support.
